The Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs is a cabinet-level agency in the Government of Pennsylvania. The department is a branch that is a part of the various Pennsylvania government branches that look to establish a better living environment for the common citizen of Pennsylvania. “The Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs mission is to engage, coordinate and lead the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s effort to prevent and reduce drug, alcohol and gambling addiction and abuse; and to promote recovery, thereby reducing the human and economic impact of the disease.” The Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) commits to the job of making available resources that are widespread and ensures excellence to Single-County Authorities (SCAs), community leaders, treatment professionals and other stakeholders throughout the commonwealth. The Pennsylvania substance abuse service system is starting to improve, moving towards an era of possibilities and promise. With the Department in place, organized, strategic enhancements will be enforced to address the efficiency of services provided, lower the frequency of substance abuse, and minimize the disproportion that exists between need and services. This State Plan will be a constantly growing document that elaborates on the needs of the Department and other state agencies, as well as the SCAs and local provider agencies. It will update decision making and strategic development at the state and local levels. Most importantly, this document is designed to assist in the prevention of Pennsylvanians becoming addicted and help those dealing with the syndrome of addiction. The Department is focused on ensuring that quality prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery support services are ready and available to the citizens of our Commonwealth. ==History== The Pennsylvania department of drug and alcohol programs formed in July 2012. This department was originally under the department of health but changed to its own organization to focus solely on drug and alcohol related addictions and problems. The company’s hard work was rewarded on June 27th 2012 when Garrison Gladfelter was presented with the Ketty award for the national prevention network. Their work continued to be noticed for on June 27th 2012, Gary Tennis received the national Ramstad award for outstanding leadership.
